There are two kinds of non-woven geotextile in the market, PP/PET Needle Punched/Spunbonded Non-woven Geotextile. Both geotextile are used for filter purpose and are popular used in road construction projects. But there are also big difference between the two products.
First of all, the appearance is different: the surface of national standard continuous filament spunbonded non-woven geotextile product is made of long fiber, and the product color is white. While the national standard short fiber needle punched non-woven geotextile product has short surface fibers, and the product color is slightly darker than the spunbonded non-woven geotextiles.
Secondly, the raw materials are different: the filament geotextiles are made of high quality polyester chips, and the short fiber needle punched non-woven geotextiles are made of PET or PP polyester staple fibers.
Thirdly, the production process is not the same: filament spunbonded non-woven geotextile is hot melt the polyester chips and then came into the network of acupuncture, needle punched geotextile is polyester fiber wire lapping and acupuncture directly.
Fourthly, the national standards are different: the continuously filament geotextiles carry out the GB/T17639-2008 standard, while the short fiber needle punched geotextiles perform the GB/T17638-2008 standard.
Fifthly, the performance index of the product is different, and the filament geotextile is higher than the short fiber geotextile for both the strength of the fracture and the other indexes.
Sixthly, the price of the same specifications is different, and the price of the filament geotextiles is generally higher than that of the short fiber needle punched geotextiles of the same specification.
However, whether continuously filament spunbonded non-woven geotextiles or short fiber needle punched non-woven geotextiles play a role of reinforcement and protection in engineering. Do we need to use filament geotextiles or short thread geotextiles in specific projects, or according to the specific conditions and design requirements of the project.
